Tips give you a public donation page wired to several payment providers. A completed payment can fire an on-screen alert, add marathon time and count towards a goal, with leaderboards and records to review afterwards.
What it solves
Every tipping platform has its own page and its own notifications, which makes stitching them together messy. This connects taking the payment to what happens next: one tip can pop an alert, add time and push a progress bar, while viewers only ever see a single page. For the supporter, seeing something happen on screen is what makes the money feel like it arrived.
Getting started
- Choose your payment providers and enter that merchant's integration details.
- Paste the return URL the system gives you into the provider's dashboard.
- Set your notification threshold and monthly caps.
- Share the public donation page with your viewers.
Monthly caps: why you'd want one
You can set an overall monthly cap, and optionally a separate cap per payment provider (an advanced option). When a provider hits its cap for the month it's hidden from the public donation page automatically and comes back next month — no manual toggling.
This isn't only about "receiving too much". Two things tend to show up once the amount crosses a line:
- The provider's contract threshold. Above a certain volume, a payment provider may require you to move to a paid plan or sign a formal commercial agreement.
- Tax registration. In Taiwan, selling services online (ad revenue share, subscriptions, tips) with monthly sales reaching NT$50,000 requires registering for tax purposes.
What makes this awkward is that it's assessed per month. It's entirely possible for only one month all year — a birthday stream, an anniversary — to cross the line, and still leave you dealing with the registration and filing that follows. Setting the monthly cap below the threshold keeps takings inside the line on their own, instead of scrambling mid-month to ask people to stop.
The figures and rules above are given for context only; what actually applies depends on the authorities' current announcements and the regulations in your own jurisdiction.
Common misconceptions
- Keys are stored encrypted and never returned. Fields like HashKey / HashIV are write-only — leaving them blank keeps the existing value rather than clearing it. Not being able to see them is expected.
- Without the return URL, payments may not credit automatically. The provider's official callback is the most reliable source of truth — paste the system's URL into their dashboard so payment results are reported back.
- PayPal needs no keys. Click "connect PayPal", authorise, and you're done; funds (USD) go straight to your PayPal account.
- The AlertBox URL is a stopgap, not an official channel. It can receive tips before official integration is set up, but it's an unofficial route and may stop working. Configuring proper integration disables it automatically (the URL is kept). One URL can only be bound to one channel.
- At the monthly cap, that provider is hidden from the public page automatically. It comes back next month — no manual toggling needed.
Settings
The text below is taken from the in-app help, so it stays in sync with the actual interface.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| PayPal | Click Connect and sign in to PayPal to authorize — no API keys needed. Payments (USD) go directly to your PayPal account. |
| Enable public tip page | Viewers can tip you directly on the public page (payments go straight to your own payment account). |
| Single pay button | Your public page shows one pay button instead of a list of methods. We pick one of your enabled providers at random when the viewer checks out. |
| Enable text tips | Viewers can tip with a custom amount and message. |
| Preset amounts (USD) | For PayPal (not available yet — you can set it up in advance); comma-separated, up to 6. |
| Message length limit | 0–200; set 0 to disable messages. |
| Thank-you message | Shown on the thank-you page after payment (up to 300 characters; leave blank for the default). |
| Enable video tips | Viewers pick a YouTube video and a playback range; the amount is estimated from the playback seconds. Once paid, it joins the song request queue. |
| Max playback seconds | Longest playback per tip (1–600 seconds). |
| Video tip notice | Shown on the public video tip form, below the platform's default notice (up to 300 characters; leave blank to show only the default). |
| Total monthly cap (TWD) | Leave blank = unlimited. |
| Per-donation cap (TWD) | Leave blank = unlimited. |
| Fee calculation | Fee = (received − processor fees − monthly allowance) × rate, rounded down. All values below are snapshots taken when the bill was issued and do not change if the settings are adjusted later. |
Other notes
- Enter your Merchant ID, HashKey and HashIV to complete official integration; official notifications are the most reliable way to record payments.
- 🔒 HashKey / HashIV are encrypted at rest and never returned. Leave blank to keep the current value; you can only overwrite, not read them back.
- The total monthly cap already covers most reporting thresholds; per-gateway caps are an advanced option. When a gateway hits its cap, it's automatically hidden from the public tip page and restored automatically next month.
- A stopgap donation channel before official integration is complete: paste the "donation success animation URL" to start receiving donations. This is an unofficial channel and may stop working in the future; it's automatically disabled once "Integration info" is configured (the URL is kept and resumes automatically if you clear the integration info). Each URL can only be linked to one channel.
- Enter this URL in the vendor portal so payment results are automatically reported back to this system to complete the payment record.
- UUID format (36 characters, e.g. xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx)
- Add the URL below to the "Callback URL" setting in your Unifi merchant console. Without it, order creation fails and viewers cannot donate.
- Deleting a record rolls back any linked goal progress.
- Fetches matching orders in batches and combines them into one CSV file.
- You've accepted the service fee terms. Once your payment method and content are ready, come back and turn on the switch above so the public page goes live.
- Share this link with your viewers or add it to your stream info panel.
- Drag to reorder the pay buttons on your public page. Providers you turn off are hidden there but keep their spot, so switching one back on won't shuffle the rest.
- Comma-separated, up to 6 (positive integers).
- The minimum amount is also the floor for estimated video tip amounts.
- Estimated amount = playback seconds × price per second (floored at the minimum amount).
- The public tip page is disabled over a service fee bill. Check its status on the Service fee tab.
- You must accept the service fee terms before you can view or adjust the tip page settings.
- This is the service fee ChiwaBots charges you, not a transaction fee from your payment provider (ECPay/OPay/PayPal, etc.) — the provider fee is just one line already deducted in the calculation below.
- Pay the overdue bill below and the public tip page will unlock automatically.
- Fee = (revenue − provider fees − exemption) × rate. Settled monthly; balances below the billing threshold carry over to the next month indefinitely.
- Below the billing threshold, so nothing is billed this period and the balance carries over indefinitely.
- The USD amount was converted when the bill was issued and is not affected by later rate changes.

- Unifi Pay integration guide
- Sign in to the Unifi Pay Console, open "Merchant Info" in the left menu, then the "Store Info" tab. Find the store you want to receive donations with (status must be Active) and copy its Store ID.
- Switch to the "Integration Info" tab and click "Reissue" in the "API Key / Secret" section to issue live credentials, then copy both the API KEY and the SECRET KEY right away. ⚠️ The secret is shown only once at issue time and cannot be viewed again. If you lose it you must reissue, which invalidates the previous key.
- On the same page, scroll down to "Callback Domain", paste the callback URL shown on the integration card of this page, and click Save. ⚠️ Do not skip this: Unifi only accepts callback URLs under a domain registered here. Without it, Unifi rejects the order the moment we create it and viewers cannot donate.
- Come back to this page and fill in the Store ID, API Key and API Secret, then save. All three must be provided together. For security the keys are never returned once stored — they can be overwritten but not read back.
- Enter your Store ID, API Key and API Secret to finish the official integration. Unifi Pay settles in crypto and charges in USD.

- Unpaid orders do not count toward the cap and are still recorded once paid; when several unpaid orders are settled around the same time (convenience-store and ATM payments allow several days to pay), actual receipts can exceed the cap by up to "number of unpaid orders × per-donation cap", bounded only by the system hard cap if no per-donation cap is set.
- This feature only helps manage receipts made through this platform and is not a compliance guarantee; your tax registration obligations are based on the total of all your income sources.
- Tip page service fee terms
- The platform charges a service fee on tip page income, settled monthly: (monthly gross income − payment processing fees − a monthly exemption) × the service fee rate. Amounts below the billing threshold roll over to the next month. The current rate, exemption and billing threshold are as shown on the Service fee page in the dashboard.
- Deducting payment processing fees is a platform benefit and is not guaranteed permanently.
- Overdue fees will suspend the tip page; it is restored automatically once paid.
- The platform may from time to time offer promotions that waive or reduce the service fee (such as an introductory free period at launch). Promotion periods and contents are as shown in the dashboard, and the platform reserves the right to adjust, suspend or terminate any promotion at any time.
- Changes to billing parameters such as the fee rate, exemption or billing threshold will be announced in advance with a stated effective date. Continued use of the feature after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated terms, and the new parameters apply automatically from that date. If you do not agree, please disable the tip page before the effective date.
