Discord

The Discord integration forwards channel events to your own Discord server: go-live notices, follows and subs, tips — even a full chat mirror. After installing, each kind of event can go to a different Discord channel.

What it solves

Your community does not hang out on Twitch; it hangs out on Discord. The people who most want to know you went live are exactly the ones already chatting in your server. Pushing events over there keeps that side alive on its own — no manually pasting a link every time you start, and offline activity has somewhere to land.

Getting started

  1. Hit "Install to server" and pick the server on Discord's authorisation screen.
  2. Back on the settings page, assign a Discord channel to each forwarding group.
  3. Enable the groups you want, and save.
  4. Use "Send test message" to confirm it actually arrives.

The install asks for exactly three permissions: view channels (to list your text channels), send messages and embed links (to post the forwarded content), and manage webhooks (to create the sending webhook in the channel you chose).

Forwarding groups

GroupWhat it covers
Stream activityGoing live, going offline, title and category changes.
Supporter eventsFollows, subs, gift subs, Bits, raids, channel point redemptions.
TipsOn-site tips, gifted plans, external payment providers. Includes amounts — usually one for a private channel.
Chat mirrorMirrors chat messages into Discord. Orders of magnitude more traffic than the others, so it is always batched.

By default every event follows its group. Per-event channel overrides exist for the case where one specific event needs to go somewhere else.

The go-live notice is one message for the whole stream

It is posted when you go live, updated periodically with viewer count and preview image, and turned into an offline card when you stop. Updates do not post new messages, so the channel never gets flooded.

  • Turning off "keep updating while live" only stops the updates; it still switches to the offline card at the end.
  • Because it is one long-lived message, the go-live notice cannot be routed per-event to a different channel.
  • You can add a line of text outside the embed — usually to mention a role. Leave it empty to post the card alone.

Chat mirror

Chat messages accumulate briefly and are posted as one batch. A shorter batch interval is more immediate but more likely to hit Discord's rate limits. You can also exclude known bots, exclude command messages, exclude this site's own bot replies, and merge multiple messages from the same person within a batch into a single card (easier to read during a flood).

⚠️ Messages from other channels in a Shared Chat session are never forwarded, and that cannot be turned off.

Emote mapping

Your channel's Twitch emotes can be mapped to custom emoji on your Discord server. Anything you do not map explicitly falls back to a same-named emoji on Discord if one exists, and to the emote's plain name if not. "Auto-map by name" only fills in what is still unmapped — it never overwrites what you already set.

Webhooks and removal

ChiwaBots creates a webhook in the channel you pick. Its name and avatar can be changed under Discord's Server Settings → Integrations → Webhooks, and we never overwrite your changes — but switching to a different channel creates a new one, back at the defaults.

Removing the integration also deletes the webhook we created for you. Messages already sent are not deleted.

Common misconceptions

  • An enabled group with no channel assigned forwards nothing. The settings page calls this out explicitly rather than silently doing nothing.
  • Profanity filtering is off by default. With it on, every piece of text this integration sends to Discord goes through the site's profanity filter; with it off, messages are forwarded verbatim.
  • Kicking the bot out of your server is not the same as removing the integration here. A periodic reconciliation notices the bot is gone, marks the connection as broken and asks you to reinstall. Your settings are still there and come back after reinstalling.
  • This page is not about system notifications. Here you forward your channel's events to your own server. Account-level notices (a plan expiring, say) travel a different path and are configured on the Account page.

Settings

Forward channel events to your own Discord server. After installing, you can pick a channel for each event group separately.

By default every event follows its group. Set this only when a single event needs to go to a different channel.

Map your channel's Twitch emotes to custom emojis on your Discord server. Unmapped emotes automatically use a Discord emoji with the same name; if there is none, the emote name is shown as text.

The text below is taken from the in-app help, so it stays in sync with the actual interface.

SettingWhat it does
Remove integrationWebhooks ChiwaBots created for you will also be deleted; messages already sent won't be removed.
Filter profanityWhen enabled, all text this integration sends to Discord (chat mirror, subscriptions/announcements, reply previews, live-notification custom messages, donation messages, test messages) is passed through the site-wide profanity filter. Off by default — messages are forwarded as-is.
Enable this groupWhen off, this event group won't be forwarded, but the settings are kept.
Live messageA line of text shown outside the embed. Use it to mention a role. Leave blank to send only the card.
Keep updating while liveWhen on, the same live message is periodically refreshed with viewer count and a preview image. Turning it off just stops the updates — the message still switches to offline style when the stream ends.
Batch interval (ms)How often accumulated chat messages are combined into one post. Shorter is more real-time, but more likely to hit Discord rate limits.
Exclude known botsDon't forward chat from known bot accounts.
Exclude commandsDon't forward messages starting with a command prefix like !.
Exclude ChiwaBots's own repliesDon't forward messages sent by this site's bot.
Forward moderation actionsAlso forward events like message deletion and timeouts.
Merge messages from the same userCombine multiple messages from the same person within a batch into one card, easier to read during chat floods.
Auto-map by nameOnly fills in blanks - mappings you already set are kept.

Other notes

  • A routine check found the bot was removed from this server, so forwarding has stopped. Please reinstall.
  • ChiwaBots creates a webhook in the channel you pick. You can rename it and change its avatar under Discord's Server Settings → Integrations → Webhooks, and we won't overwrite that. Switching channels creates a new one, which resets the name and avatar.
  • Messages from other channels in a Shared Chat session are never forwarded — this can't be turned off.
  • Going live, going offline, title and category changes. The live message stays as one post for the whole stream: posted when you go live, refreshed while live, switched to offline style when you end.
  • Follows, subscriptions, gift subs, cheers, raids, channel points redemptions.
  • Site tips, gifted plans, and external payment tips. Includes amounts — you'll usually want a private channel for this.
  • Mirrors chat messages to Discord. Volume is orders of magnitude higher than other groups, so it's always sent in batches.
