Channel management is where the bot itself is configured: which account it speaks from, which language it replies in, which words are not allowed in chat, and how new follows and suspicious accounts are handled. Nothing here is about a specific module — it is the bot's and the channel's baseline behaviour.
What it solves
A chat bot only works if two things are true: it is allowed to speak, and it does not make things worse. The first is a matter of the bot account and its MOD status. The second covers spam waves and follow-bot raids — things that happen suddenly, mid-stream, while you are busy doing something else. This page puts both in one place so they are settled before you go live.

Bot account and MOD status
By default the official bot account speaks on your behalf. On Pro you can switch to your own account, or to a bot account that has been granted to you — meaning viewers see the replies as coming from you rather than from a bot.
Whichever account you use, it needs to be a channel MOD so that Twitch's spam protection
does not swallow its messages. The Grant bot MOD button on the settings tab
does exactly that step for you.

That button only grants; it never revokes.
To remove the bot's MOD status, type
/unmodin your Twitch chat. This site does not — and should not — remove anyone's Twitch privileges for you. - If the bot is currently a channel VIP, Twitch will not also make it a MOD. Remove the VIP first, then try again.
- If the sending account is you, you already rank above MOD; there is nothing to grant.
Blocked words
Matching messages are acted on by the bot. Matching is case-insensitive and automatically ignores whitespace and punctuation inserted inside a word, so the usual evasions (dots, underscores or emoji between letters) do not help. That also means rules should be specific: a very short word is an easy way to catch ordinary conversation by accident.
Follow and chat protection
Follow protection is aimed at follow-bot raids: it can auto-block accounts that are already known site-wide as attack bots, and it can auto-block brand-new accounts whose display name matches a pattern you define. Chat protection deals with messages from known attack accounts, either with a permanent ban or a timed timeout.
- An auto-blocked follow never fires a follow alert and never pays out points.

With
Prevent blocking humanson, blocking is restricted to accounts already known site-wide as bots. It exists so bulk actions cannot hit real viewers by mistake; turn it off if you need to block an ordinary account. - Channel MODs, the broadcaster and the official bot are never auto-punished, even when the rule runs under your own identity.
Common misconceptions
- "Blocked words" and "blocked users" are different things. Blocked words are about message content and live on their own tab; blocking a user (keeping an account out of the channel) lives on the Followers tab. Their logs are separate too.
- Who may change this page depends on their role. Chat log and blocked words are open to MOD; bot settings and follower management need editor or above. Roles themselves are set under Channel permissions.
- A bot with MOD does not automatically start talking. Each module still has to be enabled on its own; MOD only stops Twitch from throttling what it does say.
- The automated action log lists only what did not take effect. Successful actions are deliberately left out — it is a troubleshooting list, not a full audit trail. The full record of write operations is under Channel permissions → Activity log.

Other notes
- Only the official bot, your own account, or an active bot grant can be selected. Invite a bot account on the Permissions page.
- Custom bot accounts are a Pro feature. Upgrade to use your own account or an authorized bot account.
- Which display names to target. Pick a preset, or write your own rule.
- Auto-blocked follows never trigger follow alerts or points.
- Case-insensitive; spacing, punctuation and symbols used to bypass are ignored automatically.
- "Prevent blocking humans" is on — deselect non-bots before bulk blocking.
