Marathon Countdown

A marathon is a countdown clock for extended streams. Bits, subs, gifted subs and tips can all add time automatically, and the stream ends when it hits zero. The clock sits in OBS so viewers can see how much they've pushed it.

What it solves

Ordinary support is spent the moment it arrives — the viewer never sees what it changed. A marathon converts every contribution into how much longer you're staying, which is about as direct as cause and effect gets: they give, the clock jumps. And the countdown creates tension on its own, because it's always shrinking.

Getting started

  1. Set the starting time and add the clock's OBS URL as a browser source.
  2. On the rules page, set how much time each event adds (N seconds per 100 Bits, say).
  3. Start the countdown — or control it from chat with !starttime / !pausetime.

Common misconceptions

  • The time shown in the dashboard is a local estimate and may drift slightly from OBS. The clock in OBS is the one actually running; the dashboard figure is for your reference.
  • By default, nothing adds time once the countdown reaches zero. Ended means ended. If you want support after zero to extend the stream anyway, enable that option explicitly.
  • "Add used time" does not affect the countdown. It only adjusts the cumulative statistic — it isn't a way to give yourself more time.
  • Bits sent via power-ups count too. Nothing is missed just because it came through an effect rather than a plain cheer.
  • A tip containing a chosen keyword can subtract time instead of adding it. That's a deliberate mechanic, not a bug — some people will happily pay to send you to bed early.
  • A custom flip-clock image must be 12 equal cells laid out horizontally. In order: 0–9, colon, minus. The overall proportions have to match the template or the digits will be misaligned.

Custom number imageCustom flip-digit image: a horizontal strip of 12 equal cells, in order 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9, colon, minus. It must match the template proportions or the digits will misalign.
Add elapsed timeOnly increases the accumulated elapsed time; does not affect the countdown.

Chat commands

These are the default command names; they can be renamed or given aliases in the dashboard.

  • !time — Query the remaining time of the timer
  • !addtime — Time required to add manually (Negative numbers reduce time)
  • !settime — Set time and start
  • !pausetime — Pause the timer
  • !starttime — Resume/start the timer

  • The time shown here is computed locally and may differ slightly from OBS.
  • Bits sent via Power-ups also count. "N sec / M" means N seconds per M Bits.
