Channel points are the economy the rest of ChiwaBots is built on. Viewers earn them by watching, chatting, following and subscribing, then spend them on gambling, slots, giveaways, predictions or rewards you define yourself.
What it solves
Viewers want to take part, but plain chat only goes so far — and Twitch's own channel points don't let you build your own mechanics on top. This gives you a currency you fully control: how it's earned, the exchange rates, what it buys, how much can be wagered. Viewers get something to accumulate and something to spend it on, which turns watching into progress.
Getting started
- Enable the Channel points module.
- Set the
currency name— what points are called in chat. - Set the
earning rules: per 10 minutes watched, per 100 Bits, on follow, on sub. - Optionally adjust
role multipliersso subscribers and VIPs earn faster. - The rest (gambling, slots, rewards, predictions) can be switched on later, one at a time.
How a payout is calculated
Final points = base points × sub-tier multiplier × VIP/MOD multiplier. For example: 100 base, 140% for Tier 2, 200% for VIP → 280 points. The multipliers multiply rather than add, so watch how fast the numbers grow.
Watch-time and chat payouts are two independent tracks
"Per 10 minutes watched" looks at whether someone is present; "chat payout" looks at whether they spoke. The two are calculated independently — an active chatter earns from both, one does not replace the other. Chat payouts have a per-viewer cooldown, so spamming the chat doesn't farm points.
Common misconceptions
- These are not Twitch channel points. The two systems are separate. ChiwaBots points live here and follow your rules; Twitch's custom rewards can act as a trigger (see below), but the balances are not shared.
- The "custom reward" fields wire a Twitch reward to a command — they don't merge the two currencies. You create a custom reward in the Twitch dashboard, put its name in the matching field, and when a viewer redeems it the bot runs the corresponding action as that viewer (auto-spin the slots, place a bet, and so on). They spend Twitch points; ChiwaBots runs the feature.
- The slots "spin duration" is more than animation length. It also decides how long the server waits before paying out and announcing the result — that's what keeps the chat message in sync with the OBS animation. Shortening the animation also announces the result sooner.
- Points only accrue while you're live. Watch-time and chat payouts both require an active stream; idling offline earns nothing.
- The ignore list exists to exclude bots. Accounts on it earn nothing from watching or interacting — put other chat bots there so they don't quietly accumulate a huge balance.
Plan differences
The number of slot symbols you can configure differs between the free plan and Pro — Pro allows more symbols, and therefore a more elaborate payout table. See the plans page for the current figures.
Settings
The channel points system adds viewing rewards, gambling and slots.
Set the slot machine symbols, weights and payouts, then grab the OBS source URL.
Leave blank to use the bot's default message. See the "Insert variable" button beside each input.
The text below is taken from the in-app help, so it stays in sync with the actual interface.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Gamble custom reward name | When a viewer redeems the chosen custom reward, gambling runs automatically with the number they enter as the bet. |
| Personal cooldown (min) | Calculated separately per viewer; chatting during the cooldown won't earn extra points. |
| Max bet | Leave blank or 0 for no limit; the 999zz system cap still applies. |
| Show "Loading.." | Post a "Loading.." chat message when the command is used or the reward is redeemed. |
| Slot custom reward name | When a viewer redeems the chosen custom reward, the slot machine runs automatically with the number they enter as the bet. |
| Weight | Higher weight = higher chance of landing. |
| Reset ALL balances | Reset every viewer's balance to zero. This cannot be undone. |
| Reel spin time (sec) | How long the reels spin (the suspense). Also sets how long the server waits before paying out and posting the result, so the chat message stays in sync with the OBS animation. |
| Result display time (sec) | How long the result (including the win fireworks) stays on screen before it clears. |
| Message delay (seconds) | Delay winning messages before posting to chat, to match your stream delay. 0 = no delay. |
| Sound volume | Master volume for the OBS slots overlay sounds (reels and jackpot). Takes effect from the next spin after saving — no OBS refresh needed. |
| Expected value per bet | Estimated average return per 1 point bet from current weights and payouts; below 1 favors the house. |
| Add | Enter a Twitch login and balance; overwrites if the viewer already has a record. |
| Bet amount message format | Bet text shown on the OBS slots widget; leave empty to use the default. |
Chat commands
These are the default command names; they can be renamed or given aliases in the dashboard.
!points— Check how many points a viewer has and their current ranking.!addpoints— Give points to viewers. Use 'all' for all chatters!setpoints— Set the points of a viewer.!givepoints— Transfer points to another viewer.!toppoints— Shows points Top 3 and leaderboard URL.!gamble— Gamble your points.!slots— Viewers gamble their points on the slot machine.
Other notes
- Awards points to viewers as soon as they chat (using a command counts too). After earning, each viewer enters a personal cooldown and won't earn again until it ends and they chat again. Only active while live; this is calculated separately from "Per 10 min watched", so active chatters can earn from both.
- When on, viewers earn points by watching and interacting.
- Formula: base points × sub-tier multiplier × (VIP / MOD) multiplier = final points.
- When a viewer redeems the chosen custom reward, this command is triggered.
- Preview the OBS animation. The slot machine stays hidden until triggered.
- Listed viewers won't earn points from watching or interacting (e.g. other bot accounts).
- Slot roll results, kept for 7 days only.
- Chat commands for the points system. Customize names, cooldowns, and aliases on the Commands page.
